Give A Piece A New Lease on Life #2

Last week I shared some of my thrifty finds makeovers befores & afters.

I have a few more...

These cubes that sit at the end of my bed were picked up from a garage sale, $10 for the pair.
They were terrible, the fabric was all worn out, stained & there were sad little tassels
hanging off each corner. I saw past all that & I liked the shape. Lots of button tuffting,
gold velvet & some simple black stained feet & they are perfect!

Some cream paint, turquoise leather & polished nickel nailhead make these Hair Salon chairs amazing.

I scored these for $5 each at the Salvation Army. I loved the simple shape, low back and
the rectangular seat. Black paint and one of my favourite abstract floral fabrics on the seat make
them a perfect choice for my sewing room.

There is no before of this chair, but it was in rough shape. The wood & round shape of the legs
continued up the arm and across the top and was all chipped. So I opted to spray paint
 the legs in a platinum colour and upholster over the "bad wood" by using a linen with
colourful velvet stripes from JJFabrics to give it personality.

My foyer bench came from Moveline and was in great shape but the fabric was terrible.
The was painted black and the seat & piping were upholstered in this
remnant stripe.  It also acts as the occasional time out bench!

We are enjoying the last few days of summer vacation with a trip to the CNE today & some family time. I will also be squeezing in some time to make a few new items for the shop.

Monday is a holiday north of the border, so I'll be back Tuesday.

Progress Report - Project Maple Ave.

Happy Thursday.

A few weeks ago I shared the bath room finishes for Project Maple Ave.,  well the tiling has been completed on 3 of the 4 bathrooms.

Clean & refreshing.
The same 12 x 24 marble was used as the main floor tile & on the shower walls.

I like how the centre accent strip was bordered with a dark grey metallic listello

We wanted detail but keeping it simple at the same time. 12 x 24 Bianco Carrera marble
was used as the main tile and a 1 x1 version on the shower floor.

The simple bevelled subway tile was accented with a glass mosaic in matte, glossy & crackle finishes.

I am very pleased with how this floor turned out. A porcelain tile was dressed up with
an accent of marble mosaics to create stripes.

Things are moving along swimmingly so I will be back with more frequent updates.

Only 5 more days until the kiddies go back to school...I'm on the count down!

The Color Cord Company

I'm sure you've noticed the ultra simple industrial meets minimal lighting pendants that seem to be everywhere.

Color Cord Company, still in it's freshman year offers pendants with a twist.
It's basically a DIYer's dream come true, choose your parts & assemble. With it's selection colourful silicone socket cover options, coloured cords & bulb cages, the possibilities are endless.

I'm thinking a pair of these on O's Room would be pretty great, with a lime green cord and a raw metal bulb cage.

Check out the complete collection from Color Cord Company here.

For those of you lucky beggars for punishment following the #30daysquatchallenge today is Day 13 & it calls for 130 squats. Good Luck!

25 Things You Don't Know About Me #11 Stacey From Design Addict Mom

Happy Tuesday!

The writer behind the blog Design Addict Mom is here to share her "25 Things'. Stacey's piece of the blogosphere overflows with gorgeous & unique spaces that are truly eye-catching.

~~~~~~~~~~
1. I am an only girl.
2. I have a phallic fascination; always gravitate to art, or inanimate objects that look like a penis (maybe because I am from a family of all boys or I'm really weird?)
3. I was a model back in my younger days.
4. I don't share towels, toothbrushes etc.
5. I hate a dirty microwave.
6. I usually cannot have dinner until the kitchen is tidy or the sink is empty. My eyes tend to wander when I eat and I like to see everything in its place.
7. I went to an all girls teachers' college in Jamaica.
8. I was the youngest student in my first year in college; age 15.
9. I used to be very brilliant which explains #8. I say used to because after two kiddos and still suffering from sleep deprivation, not all brain cells function the way they used to.
10. I was a Spanish teacher for three years at a high school before I became an elementary school teacher. Spanish was my major before I went on to receive my Masters in Elementary Education.
11. I am not amicable before having coffee in the morning.
12. I cannot live without coffee.
13. I hate doing cleanses because they usually involve no coffee consumption.
14. I am scared of lightening and will hide in a closet if I have to.
15. At that all girls' college that I mentioned above, there was a "no physical contact" rule when a girl's boyfriend would visit etc. I broke that rule all the time. That was just ridiculous, right?
16. In High School, I was caught kissing a boy (so embarrassing) by a teacher. That boy is my hubby today.
17. Eating tiramisu is an orgasmic experience for me.
18. When we lived in Italy I accidentally burnt down a tree during Christmas time. Apparently, there were too many lights for the type of outlet I used. That's when I learned the word brusciato (burnt in Italian). My Italian neighbours never let me forget that accident. The hubby was deployed at the time, so I had no guidance and I just wanted to light up the cypress tree.
19. I lick my hubby's face if I've had too much to drink.
20. It doesn't take much liquor for me to start the licking process.
21. I do not like frogs and toads.
22. I love to travel and to experience different cultures.
23. I don't eat pork.
24. It annoys me when people don't make eye contact during a conversation.
25. I always try to see the good in people.
Thanks Stacey for stopping by.
Flower Power
I discovered a new fabric from Designers Guild
This is it.
Isn't she pretty. Her name is Pandora - Peony. She will be coming to live with us as a pair of pillows on the living room sofa.
For fun I did a little design board to see how I liked this fabric, before I invest.
I love it!
 I also like the new coffee table, it will also go onto my wish list.
Have a wonderful Monday:)
Give A Piece A New Lease On Life #1
I mentioned in my 25 Things post here, that I love to scour my local Salvation Army home section for items that I can make my mark on. I do go other places besides the Sally Ann for my treasures. I like Moveline, garage sales, the odd HomeSense piece & the curb works for me too!
For those of you who don't know about Moveline, it is a warehouse that sells furniture that originated for major hotel chairs around North America.
Below are some of my treasures.
I gold leafed this HomeSense tables steel base & finished the top with a multiple coats of high gloss white paint. It now sits in my family room.
I picked this up off the curb, it was in perfect condition. So, I upholstered the seat with a vintage fur jacket purchased from Kijiji & gave it a coat of black paint.
This pair of lamps came from a little shop in cottage country. I gave them a new coat of glossy turquoise paint, new crystals and white feather shades & quickly sold the pair!
This was my first Moveline purchase for $55. The chair was painted high gloss black & was upholstered in a Thom Filicia fabric with a black & white striped piping, it now sits proudly in my living room.
This stool had a beautiful wood carved base, but was well past it's prime. After some white paint and  Lilly Pulitzer's Tail Lights fabric it's perfect.
This chair was from The Salvation Army I gave it lick of gold paint and a faux sheepskin upholstered seat. The same person who bought the stool above purchased this.
I've broken this into a 3 part series, since I have so many pieces to share with you.
If you have given a piece a new lease on life & want to share it here leave me a comment & I'll feature it!
Thank goodness day #8 on the #30daysquatchallenge is a rest day...I'm sore!
Have a Great Weekend.
