#projectindianroad Part #3 - The Entry

I can't believe it's Friday already, this week flew by like no ones business!

The final space I'm working on for  #projectindianroad is the entry.

This space is tiny & there is no closet for this family of 4. I needed to come up with storage solutions & create a welcoming area for the homeowners on a daily basis & their guests.

Here is what we're dealing with.

I came up with this design.

First & foremost I'm suggesting that the existing carpeting on the stairs be removed & have the entire staircase be painted in a combination of my go to black (Benjamin Moore Midnight Dream) & white (Benjamin Moore Oxford White). The walls will be painted in the same warm white, Benjamin Moore Dune White, as the living room. I would also love to see the interior side of the front door also be painted in Midnight Dream. 

I love the idea of a black & white galley wall on the long wall leading into the kitchen. All of the frames are to be the same size & hung in a grid pattern. I believe they have more impact & look much tidier arranged like this, especially in a tight space.

A colourful overdyed rug from Rugs USA will ground this pint sized traffic zone & cleaver shoe storage cabinet from IKEA will be able to house up to 18 pairs of shoes & not take up much room.

#projectindianroad Part 2: The Dining Room

Good Morning.

Yesterday introduced you to a new project & shared my plans for the living room. Today I'm spilling the beans on the dining room space.

My clients have recently inherited an antique dining room suite. A table, 6 chairs & a hutch. Although they love the the suite as do I, it needs to be split up. 

Here's a peek at the space in it's current state.

Here is my direction for the dining room.

The walls trim & baseboards are going to be bathed in Benjamin Moore CC-700 Smoky Green. When the trim in a space is nothing to write home about I like to just paint it all out. 

We are going to be using both the table & the hutch. The hutch is going to be painted in a high gloss white. The back wall is becoming Benjamin Moore 2146-30 split pea & the wooden shelves are being replaced with glass. New antique brass hardware will be the finishing touch.

The dining chairs are going in a more modern direction. A large piece of black & white photography will hang on the main wall.

The shutters are to come down, they kind of get in the way of the french door & replaced with wall to wall drapery that I will paint myself & have them hung on a simple & sleek rod.

I have opted not to use an area rug in the dining room, that being said, the floor is a very pale maple with a pinky undertone. My idea is to limit the amount of wood in the space,  use a toned down blue green that has been greyed down on the walls, add plenty of white & in turn the pinky tone of the floor will not be as noticeable.

A New Project Introduction #projectindianroad

I met with a new client last week who is looking to refresh their living room & dining room. I'm also going to make a few suggestions to make the for the foyer / entry a little more functional. Today I'm going to share the Living Room plans. The requirement for this space were that it must kid friendly & have plenty of storage for all of the toys that migrate upstairs from the basement. I know this game all to well.

Here's glimpse of the room in question.

There is a 4th wall that is pretty much completely open to the dining room, but I'll share that tomorrow.

I'm so glad this client decided to take me on a tour of the rest of the house because hidden in the basement were a pair of these chairs. Unbelieveable, right! I love these, so they  will be coming up to the living room & replacing the existing love seat in front of the window.

I typically dive straight into the fabrics when beginning a space.  I knew that I wanted something fun, fresh but still be sophisticated for this young family. Once I came across this David Hicks fabric I knew this was going to be the scheme - cream, grey, chartreuse, teal & aqua.

Here is the full fabric & paint selection.

The linen embroidered dot is for the drapery, green leather for a large custom tufted ottoman. The textured grey fabric, teal paint & Turkish Flower are going to transform the basement chairs into greatness!

The side table / chests are actually the Rast dresser from Ikea that we are going to hack, by using a walnut stain on the sides & top, glossy white drawer fronts & some pretty ring pulls. Not only will these look great they will also serves a storage for toys. I love the wall mounted sconces that I found from the Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co. as an option to a traditional table lamp, that being said I do enjoy this shapely lamp with the sleek barrel shade. The Stockholm sideboard, also from IKEA, that will be placed below the sofa will also act more toy storage but also hide all the cords, DVD player, etc. that goes along with the TV.
